Disenchantment

Wald Krypta

A very good Old School Black Metal release that will make the hearts of fans of the genre beat stronger!

The old days of the Second Wave of Black Metal (≈1991-1995) is still a source of inspiration for many bands, and when one speaks about USA Black Metal School (that is extremely necessary on a moment when christfascism is so strong on the country, even between Metal community), one must remember VON, PROFANATICA, HAVOHEJ, DEMONCY, JUDAS ISCARIOT left a legacy that shaped the genre on the lands of the ‘free’ (is there freedom where fascism is so strong?). And WALD KRYPTA carries the same DNA of his predecessors, as heard on “Disenchantment”.

The sonority brings the old and good lo-fi aesthetics back, and take it to extremes to the point of being hard for non-used fans to deal with. For those that are into Black Metal’s roots, it’s not hard to understand what’s being expressed and it sounds organic and funereal as well. This lo-fi outfit fits on what the band musically expresses. Even the artwork (created by Brooke Harding) reinforces such idea. On the band’s approach on Black Metal, it’s clear that they have the passion for the old days, when the genre was hated even by many Metalheads due its radical ways. But it guards resemblances with old works of Brazilian demon-lords of MYSTERIIS and SONGE D’ENFER in some aspects (especially due their preference for eerie melodies to reinforce the somber ambience of the album). It’s not something different from what’s already known, but’s truly good.

Simple technical appeal (what doesn’t mean that it’s boring), aggressive and nasty, all the seven songs show very good shrieked vocals, sharp and catching guitar riffs and simple - yet efficient - rhythms from bass guitar and drums, and the combinati1on of all these factors creates a somber and hooking musical expression that’s shown on “Into Solace”, “Opulent Impudence”, “Depraved Insolence”, “Altar of Desecration”, “Of Disenchantment”, “Rotten Vessel” and “Beneath Broken Heavens”. And it’s hard for a Black Metal fan to don’t pay respect for the band’s musical efforts.

“Disenchantment” is a very good release, indeed, and WALD KRYPTA shows what means to be Old School Black Metal without being something ‘forced’.
