WAIT is a Progressive Death Metal band from Baltimore, Maryland. In 2011, guitarist Charlie Eron burned a CD with a couple demo tracks on it and handed it to Max Phelps and Alex Weber at a metal show in Frederick, MD. They thought it was pretty cool, and that was that. Many song iterations, revisions, and several years later, the idea that time is starkly linear and unrecoverable came to Charlie while working at a desk job staring vacantly into computer screen. "We are in Transit" is the band's debut EP, and contains three tracks.

"Wonder" opens the EP. It's nine minutes in length. The guitar chords are dissonant and don't match with the bass notes. Think outside the box on this one. The clean vocals are equally as dissonant. Some of the Progressive elements come into play with the ever-shifting meter. The lead guitarist is quite skilled but again...dissonance is the key here. "Mushroom Song" is the second track. The guitars are still dissonant but the vocals are different here. The song has an angry sound to it. The clean vocals are almost dreamy...this is some unique stuff for sure. It's almost as if two competing elements are battling against each other. It ends in a trippy guitar sequence and then fades away.

"Tomorrow Awaits" is the final song on the three-track EP. I'm getting a little more of an idea of the band's identity here as this track is a bit tighter and more structured. The dissonant elements are still very much alive but the clean vocals, dare I say it, add some melody into the fold. Another fabulous guitar solo burns across the track, ripping flesh and bone. It ends in an odd passage of melody that brings a little light into the dark, dank room. Overall, it was tough to get a complete handle on what the band is all about from three tracks, but I have the sense that they can accomplish great things if they stay together. The common thread that runs throughout the album is that dissonance I talked about. But also, a sense of musicianship. If you are looking for something off the beaten path, give this a whirl.
