Voodoo Gods - The Divinity of Blood album cover

When a band is gathering joining known musicians, things can become nasty due to one fact: the fans that already know the musicians will look for similarities between their previous works with the new one. And this way of thinking can become sour, because no one wants to keep doing the same thing endlessly, and imagine if it's done in two or three bands at the same time. Starting from this point, the best way to deal with VOODOO GODS, a sextet from Tampa, Florida (USA), that is releasing their infamous second album, "The Divinity of Blood".

The mistake many can do is to compare the band to CANNIBAL CORPSE due the presence of George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher on the vocals (that he shares with Seth Van de Loo). No, there are no similarities, because VOODOO GODS plays a technical and violent mix between Thrash Metal (60% of their personality) and Death Metal (40%, of course). But their way of making music is excellent as well, besides not being anything new at all. The arrangements and musical aggressiveness is great, the energy amazing, and the songs catches the listeners easily.

Once more, as happened with "Anticipation for Blood Leveled in Darkness" (their first album), Andy LaRocque is working with the album's mixing and mastering, but this time, he worked as producer as well. The sonority is heavy and aggressive to the bones, as some Death Metal acts from Tampa love to do, but clean and defined in a Thrash Metal way. And it fits almost perfectly on what they want to do.

There are 11 tracks presented "The Divinity of Blood", all of them an explosion of aggressiveness, but the hooking Thrash/Death Metal insight of "Isa" (very good grunts, of course, entwined by very good shrieks and melodic guitar solos), the bone-crushing slow paced tempos of "Rise of the Antichrist" (a fine work from bass guitar can be heard in many moments), the catchy guitar arrangements of "Forever!", their excellent version for NECROPHOBIC's "Before the Dawn" (very good drumming, indeed), and the violent and technical aggressive puke of "The Divinity of Blood" and "The Ritual of Thorn" (on both versions). It's a massive and brutal album for extreme Metal fans.

VOODOO GODS is good surprise, for "The Divinity of Gods" is a fun and brutal album!
