VOMITHEIST is a death metal band from Switzerland that formed in 2013. After releasing a demo,EP, and a split, they have finally graced us with their debut full length album, "NekroFvneral."
The guitar tone is everything on this album. The buzzsaw riffs give off waves of high density tones that threaten to turn the brain into mush.  Their sound remains firm and unwieldy even when they are playing fast, which usually culminates into an undeniable groove. The slower, more doomy parts are as thick and defining as any doom/sludge I've heard this year.  Basically to try and convey all this....just imagine if a building fell onto your face. Soon as you get up, another one lands on you. Then another. Life becomes a never ending sea of pain. Eventually it doesn't hurt—your body finds the rhythm in the pain and music is born. That is this album.

The album opens with 'Strangled by Entrails' and the groove is CRUSHING. Within seconds, both Gubler's bass and Wöhrle's drums make it known they possess a fury of their own as each of them are as dense as the guitars. They hold down a rhythm and foundation but they also supply much of the weight that threatens to bring it down.  It is chaotic yet focused and unbreakable Gubler also provides vocals, which as the name of the band might suggest, is basically vomiting and growling while having a helicopter blade shoved up in your gut. In short, his voice is perfect and has just the right amount of echo. 'Horrific Bloodshed,' displays the band's penchant for bludgeoning it out then quickly switching to more intricate riffs all the while never stopping for a second and always keeping it flowing full stop. The song isn't even two minutes long but it packs as much filthy punch as most bands do in a full album.

'Putrefaktor' brings in catchy drums and a swirling groove that gets better as the song gets heavier. The fuzz resonating from the riffs could knock over a train. The last 45 seconds will straight up murder you. 'Tormenting Fungal Infestation' is just that—-an infestation that digs deep, grabs ahold, and never lets go. From 3:20 to the end is nearly inconceivable in the way the wall of sound is built. It stands towing and immovable but also someone pulses outward. The title track 'NekroFvneral,' is another banger, a short burst of a do or die front assault. It is the perfect primer for what comes after. The final track, "Carnivorous Cult," is the crown jewel of the album.  At over twelve minutes in length, the band dives into waters usually reserved for doom or prog. Who wants a death metal song that long?  Well, I do.  And there isn't one note, passage, or tiniest piece of rotten grit across this song's epic length that doesn't need to be there.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter if you have never liked OSDM (what is wrong with you?) or if you but are tired of the 10,000th band to claim a revival of that late 80's/early 90's sound.  VOMITHEIST craft is so finely turned in such a disgusting way, you are going to walk away impressed no matter your thoughts on this level of extremity.
