Bloody hell, how do you review an EP that is more like a soundtrack, with the three songs that count as such not even adding up to three minutes? When you delve deeper, you find that these are their own unique VOIVOD interpretation of the same tunes used in the Japanese series "Ultraman". Does it excite me? Hardly, it is nice, but that's all really. The only ones benefitting from these songs will be the fans of that particular series.
The exciting stuff comes from the last two songs on this EP, "Overreaction" and "VoiVod". Two live recordings from 2018, that showcase the unique sound and brilliance that comes naturally with VOIVOD. Even though they don't make the easiest music on the planet, they are able to emulate and even enhance their sound when they play live. This is what VOIVOD is all about. Making good music that should appeal to GOJIRA fans, as they have been quite open in borrowing and copying the way VOIVOD operates musically.
You don't have to go out and buy this EP unless you're a avid VOIVOD fan, as it is only released as a physical album on a vinyl format. No CD, therefore. Otherwise, you can just download from the proper platforms. The choice is yours. I'm glad I have the digital version. That'll do me for now. Thankfully I can always fall back on the brilliant "Synchro Anarchy" album which the band released earlier this year.
