When you look up this version of VOID you get to see (Louisiana) behind it, just so you know that you have the right one. That does make it a lot easier to find out what you need about the band, as I haven’t been provided with any information at all. So, VOID actually hails from Lafayette, started life in 2019 and play Thrash Metal, if you believe The Metal Archives site. But do they? Yes, this band does, although if you tell me that they play Thrash Metal with a lot of Speed Metal and Heavy Metal mixed in I would tell you that you are correct as well. I make this statement because I feel that VOID is not a band that fits into just one category. At least, not on “Forbidden Morals”, their sophomore album. I’m sorry to say that I haven’t had the pleasure of listening to their 2023 debut album “Horrors Of Reality” just yet. But based on this review you will find out whether I am interested to find out.

Musically there is one thing for sure; if you like it straight forward without any side-tracking you should skip “Forbidden Morals” as it is like an ADHD patient that has consumed too much caffeine. Rather busy, almost crowded and chaotic in ideas, that are being thrown at you left, right and centre. And you know what: it works. VOID have the ability to make it all gel together, to make it all sound cohesive. As for the atmosphere that is being created by VOID, there are a number of references that I could mention. Remember HADES, DARK ANGEL and such? Technically brilliant bands that made sure that your Thrash Metal experience was one that you would treasure. I feel that “Forbidden Morals” has the same undertone, brings the same emotions to the forefront.

As for the musicians, they are bloody good. They know how to play, how to make everything sound sturdy and direct whilst keeping up with each other through all the breaks and tempo changes. The same goes for singer Jackson Davenport. He is simply put perfect for this kind of music. And as always, I will end by mentioning what I think of the songs. They range from rather good to outstanding, with the closing song “Beneath… Lives the Impaler” being quite the impressive anthem at 10:41 minutes. I really like what VOID is bringing on “Forbidden Morals”, so, yes, I will be looking for the debut album next.
