The Dark Triad
Visions of Terror

What can I expect from a band with the name VISIONS OF TERROR. Please do NOT confuse them with the Grindcore band VISION OF TERROR. This is a whole new kind of animal. Well, you would think that men who adopt such a band name, as these have, will make the most terrifying music you can think of. If they then for instance choose to start making Deathcore, Grindcore or Horror Metal as their genre of choice, you find it fitting. But not these guys. Nope, these guys from the Northern Midwest of the USA have opted to make (as they describe it on their website) Melodeath with Modern Metal. And however I turn it all, that does is as true as can be. What I am listening to is the debut EP "The Dark Triad", which houses 7 songs that add up to just over 22 minutes of a complete explosion.
But before I start giving my opinion on what I am hearing, I have to tell you that musically this is JUDAS PRIEST style Heavy Metal mixed with Melodic Death Metal and even some Deathcore when the speed is at its highest. If you are a fan of any of these musical genres, you really need to have a listen to what VISIONS OF TERROR have to offer musically on "The Dark Triad", as you will realise that a lot of what you are hearing is actually very pleasant for your ears. As for the vocals, that is another matter. Those start out rather tame, but then the intensity and ferocity gets so that you suspect that during the recording sessions the intestines might have come out of either end of the bodies of both the screamers. But as a whole, if you can hack those kinds of vocals, you're in the clear for a very pleasant listen.
Because what I hear on "The Dark Triad" is a very nice combination of Melodeath and Modern Metal, with outbursts of Heavy Metal and Grindcore to boot. All of that is packed in short, direct and very intense songs that will have you at the edge of your seat. The advantage of such short songs is that they don't get the chance to bore you, that you won't find a note on their that isn't needed, that VISIONS OF TERROR is trying to impress you with their instrumental prowess. Nope, you get to the point and intrinsic sounds thrown at you, and that is exactly what is needed to impress. Well done.
