Veni Domine - Light album cover

VENI DOMINE is, was and always be a very unique and a one of a kind band, their accomplished and immaculate career is stretched for more than twenty five years by now, those heavenly talented Swedish guys are following their own divine way in a bright, shining and a artistically triumphal achievement.

Musically, first by mixing some Progressives American Metal (read FATES WARNING / HEIR APPARENT / QUEENSRYCHE) elements with the more traditional Scandinavian Melodic Doom in the vein of CANDELMASS / ABSTRACT ALGEBRA with a little spice additions of Christian Dark Metal typically from Sweden, and a real adventurous spirit in the arrangements : the result is something quite rare, even if some high profile contemporary bands like 7 DAYS / HARMONY / INCRAVE / DARK WATER or EVIL MASQUERADE have borrowed a lot of essential parameters to VENI DOMINE's recipe.

Second, thematically their gospel lyrics are deeper than just preaching the sacred word of God, the mood seems always quite somber but the Epic shuffle never stop with a true biblical elegance and a definitive smart attitude. "Light" is the first release after some nearly seven years of silence, Fredrik Ohlsson Sjöholm's voice still possess this classy approach when he sing, a great voice being situated exactly in between Ray Adler (FATES WARNING / REDEMPTION) and Thomas Vikström (THERION /DARK ILLUSION / ex-CANDLEMASS)...This guy is awesome, I would like to recommend to you all, his other band (RIP) ZOIC... Especially the fantastic album "Total Level Of Destruction" from 1996... Indeed a good tip.

Ok, back to the original topic, this album once again it's a valid proof of their amazing gift but the band choose the most tortuous path, the atmosphere is thick and the soberness of the pace is in an obvious contrast with the complexity of the structures, each song expanded its own universe to reach the plenitude climax which is the most intellectual substance provided under an huge quality range, the demanded density of the songwriting is only matched by the superb and polished sonic work.

The core of the band VENI DOMINE is still composed by the brothers Weinesjö, Thomas (Drums) & guitarist Torbjörn who are no stranger to the Christian Metal scene, indeed their name is associated under the AUDIOVISION / HERO / SAVIOR MACHINE / DIVINEFIRE fame, the last cut "Oh Great City" is a re-recorded version of their song that was featured in their glorious, reputed debut the 1991's "Fall Babylon Fall" clearly the best manner to conclude this long pilgrim trek in a perfect note.

With their new, still untarnished collaboration with Massacre Records, the Swedes are on a strong momentum, the future for VENI DOMINE looks pretty interesting, and the stars disposition in the skies are set in their most pristine cross conjunction, a fine omen...The listening of this album require time and devotion, as the maximum exigency of the songs is hard to catch in the early spins, it could seems a little hermetic at first, but the cerebral music lovers will adore this work as much as I do, of course those who needs a rapid fix of anthemic Rock, should found something up in their alley elsewhere...Come divine light.
