People usually take the worst part of a musical ideal, when speaking about a specific Metal genre. In Black Metal, many people think that those nasty sonorities done on the early releases from the Second Wave of the genre were done solely due a conception (the 'ugly aesthetics', as Varg said on a documentary), when in reality things were done on such form during those days due the lack of money to pay for a better sound quality. Today, many bands try the same, but the results aren't as good, but some try to mix the old rusty sonority (from the instrumental tunes used) with a defined sound. It's the case of the German trio URFEIND on the EP "Wraiþaz".

They're an Old School Black Metal band in the same way of those early names from German Black Metal of the 90's (especially due the tunes of the vocals that are near a low approach), playing aggressive and nasty, sometimes fast, on other moments having a slower set of tempos, and all based on morbid and nasty ambiences. And although they can do a better musical work in such a way, they're pretty good. It's a matter of time and adjustments, but they're on the right path, with a morbid and shocking energetic appeal, and a simple (but efficient) instrumental technique.

On the production, they did what is described above: to blend the ugly aesthetics and organic rusty feeling of the past with the modern sound technologies to give an embodiment to their songs. It works in a good way, but their music deserves something better elaborated (some volumes are louder than the needed). For Black Metal fans from the 90's, "Nine to Zero" (very good fast tempos), "Void", "Anthem of Decay", and "Inner Rampage" are songs with a deeper and strong appeal. Of course, they could have worked in a way to get better results, but's good as it is by now. And "Wraiþaz" could be a turning point for URFEIND's career, because historically, EPs are done to close a chapter, and open a new one.
