Youth
Unleash The Sky
There are times that things become harder and harder in my tries to understand the new Rock and Roll styles. I hear them, become actualized, but things are really strange sometimes. And time and time again, those Pop Rock mutations are becoming weirder in a way that is something really we can't understand. German quintet UNLEASH THE SKY is really strange in some moments, as their album "Youth" can show us that, clearly.
It's pretty strange as the Hardcore adrenaline and some fast tempos can mix in a good shape with Pop Rock influences, with this adolescent and introspective vocals. Then, it becomes aggressive and melodic, with a good accessibility for a broader public. OK, but it still has that scent of "Popish music for young boys and girls", a formula that can be heard on radios. Of course it has its value, but it really doesn't fit for a Rock fan that wants something more aggressive.
Clear and loud is the album's sound quality; of course it deals pretty good with the aggressive tunes on guitars and vocals (when they use it), but as their music has a melodic and Pop orientation, it doesn't demands too much of the producer.
They got some pretty good moments on songs as "These Days" (a good mix of Pop backing vocals with the young adrenaline from Hardcore), the catching "Lonely Blue" (these riffs are something very good, but the tender and slow moments could be torn from the song), "B.R.L.D." (with some charming Pop moments, and no aggressiveness on it). But I must say that they are not the worst band or the best one on this style.
Just an album that shows a great potential, but the band can do better.
