Unchurch
Unchurch

From the EPK: UNCHURCH is an atrocity that emerges from the depths of the Chilean Death Metal scene in late 2022, where three entities form the strident disharmonies of this new act of violence manifesting from the abyss. Thus, this project, oriented toward anti Christianity and harrowing Death Metal, with varied influences within the genre, is born, creating a tripartite conversation between primitive and technical metal, without losing the dark and bestial essence of death. Well, that does tell a story. The band actually made an EP before this, their debut album, "Unchurch". But, as this is my first array into the Extreme, and almost Brutal Death Metal world of UNCHURCH, I can only comment on this album. And believe me when I say that this is more than enough for a first encounter. Anyone brave enough to tackle this album needs to be schooled and trained in listening to Extreme Death Metal.
As it stands, the band is going for fast, furious and as brutal as they can. That doesn't mean all is done at top speed. Nope, they operate just a tad underneath that. What they do try is cram as many notes as they can into every second they are playing, making the space to let the music breathe to be just about non-existent. This is a full-on barrage of a wall of noise that is trying to fall down on top of you and crush you in the process. And yes, UNCHURCH are actually achieving that feat from the first until the very last second of the album. This means that you have to try and survive over 38 minutes of an Extreme Death Metal Onslaught before you get a chance to catch your breath. Unless you have the "Unchurch" album on repeat, than you keep on suffering.
I am fortunate enough to avoid the latter, because after 38 minutes I'm not only deaf, but also numb and very disorientated about what I just witnessed. This might appeal to the real afficionado of Extreme Death Metal, but to me "Unchurch" is just a reenactment of the same tunes, the same song over and over again. I simple have lost the ability to differentiate one track from the other, and I refuse to believe that such is what UNCHURCH has set out to be the result of their recordings. A little bit of variation in either speed, intensity or extremity would have helped. Even adding a set of different emotions might have done the trick. Unfortunately that hasn't happened, making this a rather disappointing listen to my ears.
