It’s not a sin to say that the Second Wave of Death Metal (1989-1993) ignited a true invasion of the genre throughout the world, and echoes could be felt everywhere, even in countries without tradition on the genre. And some bands of those days are still hidden into the underground, as the Spanish quartet UNBOUNDED TERROR. And these veterans come with their latest full-length, “Something is Rotten in Humanity”. Vicente Payá (the guitarist and sole founding member of the band) produced the album, with Davide Billia taking care of the mixing and mastering. And the result is a form of Death Metal sonority that’s usual for today: brutal and aggressive, but defined and understandable. It means that it’s not hard to hear and absorb the band’s musical ideas. And the artwork of Juanjo Castellano is truly excellent, depicting clearly what the music of the band delivers.

The band shows a musical work with deep foundations on the classic form of traditional Death Metal usual for the acts of the Second Wave between 1990 and 1992, with touches of some Grindcore elements (as the fast blast beats heard on “Reviving”) and it seems to fuse influences from US Death Metal School (as the vocals in a way similar to Ross Dolan and Craig Pillard), UK Death Metal School (as the work of bass guitar and drums creating a solid rhythmic mass influenced by BOLT THROWER and BENEDICTION), and many more. It’s full of energy and bleeds in aggressiveness, with rhythmic contrasts and blazing guitars, and growls like the singer was into a deep cave. And it’s surely very good.

“Fear of Dying”, “Destiny of Evil”, “Demons in Your Mind”, “Reviving”, “Inside Death”, “The Disappointment”, “Divine Virtue”, “Believing Again” and “The Evil Cause” leave no doubts that the quartet is honest to its origin, and even after 34 years of existence, their fourth full-length (the band stayed on hiatus for some years) shows a musical work that’s relevant and expressive. And by the way, their Death Metal version for “I’m a Freak” (of the OK legends of WICKED LADY) is truly excellent.

It's obvious that UNBOUNDED TERROR still has a place in the Death Metal scene, and “Something is Rotten on Humanity” shows it clearly.
