Musical labels for genres aren’t used for other thing than name them (just to make things clear, and not to rule over your musical taste). But unfortunately, many people are attached to them in a way that just hearing or reading a name, and people often leave a work aside, a work that can say a lot to them, even not being in a genre that is usual for them. To be tried into new musical horizons is a constant to fans of music (not the ones into fashions, because they only run after what is in evidence in a group tendency). So if one can have a tip of a very good name to hear and enjoy, the quartet TVINNA is surely a good one. Their latest release, “Two - Wings of Ember”, is really great!

The recordings were done by Rafael Fella (the band’s guitarist, who did the mixing as well) and Daniel Milert, and with mastering done by Robun Schmidt at 24-96 Mastering. The production is signed by Rafael and Laura (the band’s singer). All to keep the sound organic, clean and defined as it must be, and it’s amazing as it works to make the songs reach the hearers’ hearts. Guest musicians: here are Fabienne Erni on the vocals on “Louga”, Maria Graf (on bukkehorn on “Louga” and “Der Weg”), Stephan Groth (on the FX Hurdy-Gurdy on “Wings of Ember” and on the vocals on “The Fall”), Fiona Rüggeberg (on the vocals on “Nénuphar” and the electronics on “Dawn of Mine” and “Irwahhên”), and Fieke van den Hurk (on the synthesizer on “Nénuphar”, FX accordion on “Fortress”, and he did the composition and design of the artwork as well).

One could try to label their music as a form of Post-Rock filled with Folk music influences, or Dark Prog Rock, or anything in this way. But definitions for their music aren’t as simple as it can seem, because even having a clear melodic appeal that binds the hearers to their work, the fans will have a mix of feelings flowing from the songs, as melancholic parts with nasty guitars, a mystical sense of the past (due the Folk music elements), and more and more as you’re dragged into it. It’s simple to hear and to love, indeed, but’s truly deeply expressive, progressive and emotional. It’s a musical work rich in expressions and elements, so the best is to let it play and enjoy without trying to label the band’s music.

All the songs are really great to be heard and enjoyed, each one of them with an ample set of influences and elements, but to hear moments as “Dawn of Mine” (a deeper and tender Folk/Prog Rock song filled with landscaping moments where sweet vocals enter the minds boosted by effects and keyboards), “Louga” (a modern Folk Rock moment, with excellent guitar arrangements, and charming sweet vocals), “Irwahhên” (Folk Rock, Doom Rock and Gothic Rock-like elements and mixed under a solid rhythmic work of bass guitar and drums), “Arma” (the contrasts of tender ambiences with massive guitars is excellent), “Wings of Ember” (this one has some broken tempos and more technical appeal, with the vocals tempering things), “Somnia” (a deeper and ethereal song based on excellent keyboards’ ambiences), and… Oh, come on! Hear to these ones, but to “Two Staves”, “Fortress”, “The Fall” and “Der Weg”, because each one of them is precious. Even the intro “Nénuphar” can’t be left aside!

“Two - Wings of Ember” seems to be opening new musical possibilities to TVINNA, but it’s not a sin to think that they can transcend limits and become a huge commercial success. Their music enables the quartet to have such ambitions.
