Binary Dream

Turbulence

The thing that hits the listener square in the jaw is the talent that the band has from top to bottom. The album is packed full of heavy, Djent moments, as well as more tender and personal moments. The only possible critique I could offer the band is to let some of the melodies ride out a bit more, like the themes in the final song. They ride that song into the sunset. Still, this is an outstanding album from start to finish.

The band states: “Binary Dream” is a narrative wrapped in layers of groovy, technical Progressive Metal, with nods to Djent and Jazz fusion. It's an exploration, a questioning, and an awakening. Dive into the journey of 8b+1, a robot at the center of an experiment called Binary Dreaming. Across nine tracks, we're taken through a meticulously crafted story of consciousness awakening. Each piece is a blend of technical skill and emotive storytelling, reflecting the band's growth and ambition.” The album has nine songs.

“Static Mind” is first and serves as a short introduction to the album. “Theta” is the first proper track. It storms out of the gate with heavy guitar rhythms and some Djent touches. The vocals are smooth and even harmonized at times, and it’s obvious that this band has talent. “Time Bridge” is another short connecting song, featuring some funky bass notes and, tough guitar rhythms, as well as some keyboards. “Manifestations” showcases the bands imagination with a frenzy of varied instrumentation in the opening sequence. I hate to draw comparisons, but the quartet tackles their prowess like DREAM THEATER. The sound softens a bit after the half-way mark, and the band let’s their heightened sense of melody shine.

“Ternary” has some very smooth vocal harmonies that are quite emotive. It also shows the more tender side of the band, although the song is not without its heavy moments. The title track is the longest on the album, at 15 minutes in length. It is plenty of time for the band to flex their muscles and do they ever, in and out of hardened structures alternating with melodic moments. The amount of exploration they do in this sound is astounding, but yet they never lose sight of the sound along the way. Pulling off something at this length is a testament to their songwriting abilities. “Hybrid” has a strong mix of electronics with bottom end structures as heavy as concrete. The vocals are so smooth, but other times angry, and always emotive, and the guitar work is fantastic.

“Corrosion” is mournful, and full of sentiment. Again, it’s the fluid and serene vocal harmonies that grab me most. “Deerosion” closes the album; a short, somewhat depressing but charming end to the album. Overall, the thing that hits the listener square in the jaw is the talent that the band has from top to bottom. The album is packed full of heavy, Djent moments, as well as The only possible critique I could offer the band is to let some of the melodies ride out a bit more, like the themes in the final song. They ride that song into the sunset. Still, this is an outstanding album from start to finish.
