Adoration of the Abyssal Trespasser
Trollcave
TROLLCAVE is a new Funeral Doom/Death Metal act based out of Spain. This is the band’s second EP, and it has two lengthy songs. “Grotesque Abyssal Trespasser” is first, and it begins with deathly sounds from the void. Layers are added slowly, and it’s almost as if a great giant is beginning to wake after centuries of sleep. All the rumors you heard about his evil are true, and you are frightened at the prospect of him walking the earth once again. The first riff is crunchy, low, and muted, and the guttural vocal utterances match the music. The riff drags on for what seems like days…even weeks…of perpetual grey skies and rain outside.
“Abominator’s Diseased Carrion” is the second and final track on the EP, and it has a little more energy, and more sonority. The drummer tries to keep up, but he is just a smidgeon of a beat behind...that might be by design however as this creates more of a hopeless sound for the album. The song is muddy, swampy, and whatever other adjective you want to use around these things. The pacing varies from there…at times, dreadfully slow, and others, a bit faster. After the mid-way mark, there is a psychedelic passage that draws the listener into the world closer, and you don’t want to open your eyes.
One of the reasons that the music is so slow is because it allows the pain to soak in. At first, it feels like a pinch, but later, it grows into a dull ache that just gets worse. Eventually, the pain is near crippling, and there is no cure in sight. You are diagnosed with chronic pain, and it hits you…you are going to feel like this for the rest of your life.
