TRAUMER is a Power Metal quintet coming out of Brazil. Born in 2009, TRAUMER began to draw attention with the album "The Great Metal Storm", released in 2014. The material entered the Top 20 Japanese Charts of import discs charts, ascending on the following two albums "Avalon" and "History" to Japanese General Charts. Speaking about the third album "History", the album was initially released in Japan more than a year ago but is now ready to hit the worldwide market this coming July fifth. And that album is what we'll discuss in this review.

Brazil might just be the strongest power metal outpost outside Europe, and the biggest and best power metal band from that place is ANGRA so it is not a surprise that this band has so much ANGRA influences running through their veins like any other Brazilian power metal bands I have encountered before. The difference with TRAUMER is that while they are heavily influenced by ANGRA, that did not limit them to just trying to sound like ANGRA. For example, just listen to the title track which was released as a single. The traces of ANGRA is all over the guitars, even Guilherme Hirose's singing style is very much in line with that of the great Andre Matos (may the legend find eternal peace wherever he is). But aside from that, they infused their own identity in the song in the way they paced it, and how they attacked it. It also contains some STRATOVARIUS elements in it and overall it was simply an amazing classic power metal song.

They can also do mid-paced anthems like "Lulaby", "The Land Of Rising Sun" and "Turn Back the Night". The beauty in those songs is that the considerably slower tempo allowed it to be several times heavier than the rest of the songs. The album also has power ballads in "Lonely Rain" and "Thousand Tears". Among the two mentioned songs, it was "Lonely Rain" which is really running high in emotions and intensity, while "Thousand Tears" was the much calmer one, having only the synths with occasional chimes and drums on the background. Both songs have lovely and wonderful lyrics.

The best songs in the album have to be "Revolution has Begun", "Guardians of Time", and "Seize the Day". In the mentioned songs, they went all-out classic heavy metal-power metal. Influences from pioneers like BLIND GUARDIAN, ANGRA, HELLOWEEN, and SAVATAGE can be traced. Of course, the songs contain the highest energy levels with its fast riffing and much busier drumming. Big, catchy and anthemic choruses are also a big part in the awesomeness of the songs, just as how every power metal hymn must be.
