Torture Squad - Return of Evil album cover

Known from many Thrash/Death Metal fans on Brazil and Europe, TORTURE SQUAD has a main feature: never expect them something equal from one album to another, because they always explore new possibilities on their music, especially when the band has changes on its formation. So, having this aspect in mind, what could we expect from "Return of Evil", their newest release, a four track EP? The clear idea that we can have is that the quartet, after the coming of Mayara "Undead" Puertas to vocals and Rene Simionato to the guitars, have brought back some of the old aggressiveness and Death Metal elements from the band's past. But the energy and musical identity of the band is there, because Castor (bass) and Amilcar (drums) are the keepers of it. So you have the old band in form, but with a new and good taste.

Wagner Meirinho and the band itself had done the albums production (and Wagner did the mixing and mastering as well). It's thunderous and aggressive, as the band usually sounds, but with a good level of sound clearness. Then, we can have the true idea of what they are playing and what they want to do with their music. Of course there are many features on their sound that will improve, because the band's lineup is extremely new, because the long and oppressive "Return of Evil" with its excellent tempo changes and great work on vocals, the explosion of Death Metal brutality that is shown on "Swallow Your Reality" (a fine work from the experienced rhythmic kitchen), the hooking and storming guitars presented on "Dreadful Lies", and the excellent work on the long instrumental called "Iron Squad" (full of musical riches, with an excellent work from guitars and bass guitars, but with the drums doing some good rhythmic changes) are signs that the band can do better than we hear here.

Of course, the CD brings two bonus for the fans: the videos for "Return of Evil" (the official video, released some months ago), and "Behind the Evil", a little video documentary from the recording sessions of the EP, with some good moments (seeing Rene playing "Changes" from BLACK SABBATH on piano is really hilarious). Ending: TORTURE SQUAD is back, so hope that a new album is coming this way. But "Return of Evil" is a very good release that we can hear until it comes.
