In the 90's, when the SWOBM (Second Wave of Black Metal) started to spread the new darkness of the genre throughout the world, many experiments were done in music, creating new models and elements for generations to come. The stagnation of the genre that happened in the 80's (when the formula used by VENOM lost its appeal) was finally ended, and that's the value of names as MAYHEM (the pioneer and root of the SWOBM), ROTTING CHRIST, BURZUM, DARKTHRONE, MARDUK, EMPEROR and some others. And the one man band TITAAN inherited the old flame, as can be heard on "Itima".

The musical insight used by Lalartu (the sole member of the band) isn't new at all: the same morbid and darkened Old School Black Metal from the first half of the 90's, using elements from Atmospheric/Dark Ambient music as well. It remembers works as "In the Nightside Eclipse" and "Dark Medieval Times" due the raw approach of the song, but it's filled with many tempo changes and contrasts between dark introspective moments (filled with Gregorian chants) with brutal parts. Well, to a song that lasts more than 40 minutes, this must be shows. Yes, the entire album is only one song, what can be hard for some to assimilate, but it's not bad. Instead of it, "Itima" has its charming appeal.

The sound quality of the album can seems something in the SWOBM format, but paying attention, the advantages of modern recording technologies become clear, so the song really is nasty and crude on its impact, but in a way that can be clearly understood by the listeners. It's not perfect, though, but is good!

As told above, there's only one long song on the album. But for those that are into what was done in the earlier Black Metal recordings, it's not a trial. Aggressive parts with brutal and fast guitar riffs, and nasty shrieks contrasts with atmospheric funereal moments. So "Itima" is rich of variations, with a strong and secure rhythmic session (with bass guitar and drums, even with a simple technical insight, can pulverize the brains of the listeners). For newcomers, it can be difficult to understand and swallow at first, but for used Black Metal fans, it will be love at first hearing.

Of course that TITAAN could give the fans an album, as was done on "Kadingir", but "Itima" really can be a blow of fresh wind for the fans of the past.
