Where most Black Metal bands are more sophisticated or more raw, this band is in the middle. THROAT has quite the thing going, and it has now released 4 EPs this year alone. Now that does not mean that I am trying to say that more releases means more bad music, but sometimes, a slight pause might be an idea?
"Black Speed" is not one of the best things I have heard in a while. When I first put it on, and the song "The Tortures" started playing, I did not know what to do with it. Go with the abstract and brutal again, or is this my limit?
My conclusion led to my own mind finally drawing a line. This time be brutally honest: it is not that great. The music is on it's uncoordinated way okay, but the vocalisation machine is just not quite my man. His vocals seem too flat, and sound quite dull. If only more energy flew off, or if it was in more of a Speed Metal like scene, this might have worked, but now, it just seems like the vocalist is trying to fill in on slow grounds, where other options might have been better. Talent as it is, sometimes another setting has to do it.
The style is not quite to the liking, and the stuff of nightmare continues. The true beauty seems to be found in "Rampage" where instruments seem to align more, and more of the good stuff comes forth. Too bad for the album, because if it were not for my patience, I would have clicked away. The better parts come from "In League With Satan", which is just a VENOM cover! The arrangement was good, because it was done for them, the setting is right, but the vocals are not quite right. Flatness and dullness might be the point. It could be the moment, but I have not seen the reason to buy this album yet.
You might want to hear it, but as far as I can see, this is just something that needs work, and quite a lot.
