THE SOURCE's brand new album is something I was waiting for some time now. I have known this band since its beginning and I can say that it is probably one of the first bands to - successfully - play a more modern version of Metal in Greece. I guess that their name doesn't ring a bell to many of you. What about if I told you that this band used to be called NEGATIVE CREEPS?
The Greek metallers have a long history, beginning with 1996 demo In The Middle, under the banner of NEGATIVE CREEPS back then. After some great releases, the band decided to change its name to THE SOURCE for reasons that I at least do not know. With a slightly different line up, the Greek Metal act signed a contract with the also Greek label I For An I Records for the release of its debut album.
Do not expect many differences in the band's sound. THE SOURCE is an all out attacking war chariot full of Thrash Metal anger (EXODUS, TESTAMENT, THE HAUNTED, DEW-SCENTED), Death Metal brutality (CARCASS, AT THE GATES, DISMEMBER) and a touch of melody to spice it up a bit. To tell you the truth, I happened to be passing by the room the band was rehearsing one day and I fucking knew that these guys were going to kick major ass. I was a fan of NEGATIVE CREEPS and I am glad their legacy continues...
I have had the chance to listen to the band's drummer live and I have to admit that the guy is a fucking lunatic! You just have to hear him tear the drum set apart! Since I want to be fair I also have to mention the incredible vocals performed by Makis and the bulldozer known as Atris. Last but not least, thumbs up for John and Stamatis for the sweat they shed for the riffing of this album, which is obviously one of the most important parts in THE SOURCE's music.
So, I guess that this is a more than good start for the band and the future will be even better. Extra kudos for the absolute highlight of this album, Bringing Out The Dead. Be sure to check these guys out!
