Retro Rock is back with a vengeance and since I'm a sucker for it, I'm really digging a few of the bands I've discovered in recent times playing this style. THE SOCKS deliver the goods on their self-titled release and remind me of one of my favorite bands from yesteryear, BLUE CHEER! I also hear common elements with some other "modern" Retro bands such as C'MON, PRIDE TIGER and HORISONT, but hear enough uniqueness in their sound to keep this disc in my regular rotation for a long time to come.
I definitely picked up on the vibe that these guys have developed their sound by playing a lot of live shows in a short period of time and hearing such killer tracks as "Electric War", "New Kings" and "We Live" make me wish this band had some upcoming shows in the Northeast USA. After reading all about THE SOCKS, they seem very passionate to their craft and I'm sure it will be just a matter of time before they are traveling from their native France to play some killer shows on US soil.
If you're burned out on the new age 'Razor Rock" most new bands are peddling these days, I highly encourage you to check out THE SOCKS. They deliver some serious, no-nonsense Rock music and are destined to become more well known in the coming months of 2014.
