The True Harmful Black

The Infernal Deceit

Wow, what a lovely Black/Death Metal/Blackened Death Metal release!
April 24, 2025

During the 90s, a different path was opened by acts as DISSECTION, SACRAMENTUM, NECROPHOBIC, NAGLFAR (on its prime) and some others: a melodic crossing between Black Metal and Death Metal influences. Such format is still used by many bands today, being something old fashioned or with evolved features, and still shows some promising names, as the German duet THE INFERNAL DECEIT. And spreading darkness once again, here is their second full-length, “The True Harmful Black”. With mix and mastering done at Soundlodge Studio, the sonority is clean and defined, yet head-crushing (due the sharp and old-fashioned instrumental tunes used).

It’s aggressive and nasty, but in a way that things are totally understandable to anyone, so no complains about the sonority. What a beautiful artwork done by Roberto Toderico! And as a guest, here is Jörg Uken (owner of Soundlodge Studio) on the drums. With a 48-minute duration, the album shows an honest and aggressive form of Black/Death Metal in the same ways used on the 90s, with somber melodies filling the spaces. Besides the words can give a gross idea of what’s being expressed, the duet works on a personal way, using the old ways, what means that “The True Harmful Black” is an honest album, filled with energy and that will make you shake your heads until your necks ache!

A Black/Death Metal pure breed, all that is offered on “The True Harmful Black” is precious, and the experience of dealing with pieces as “In the Wilderness of Pernicious Black” (charming melodic riffing contrasted by the snarls of the vocals), “The Great Seducer, The Greatest Deceiver (Dethroned)”, “In Death I Am Eternal” (fine clean parts of the guitars, indeed, and an amazing and melodic guitar solo), “The Divinity of Forsaken Idols” (pay attention how the fast tempos don’t obliterate the melodic arrangements), “For All Things Must Die”, “The Primordial Maze and the Crawling Chaos” (another fast song with sharp aggressiveness, and a thunderous work on bass guitar and drums), “Schwarz”, “Until the Flesh is Gone” (the adrenaline reach extreme high levels on this one), “The Fathomless Dominion” (impossible to resist to such darkened hooks), and “...and the Tide Will Turn”. This experience you won’t regret to take!

“The True Harmful Black” is truly a great release for Black/Death Metal maniacs, but honestly: if you don’t care about genres, THE INFERNAL DECEIT is a great act to be heard, indeed.
