New Wave Order

The Foreshadowing

This is one case where the album’s clean vocals work very well with the music. I usually like my Doom with harsh vocals, because that pairing makes more sense. But, the cleans are so expressive and layered with harmonies. Add in all of the other elements, and you have a memorable album.

From Bandcamp, “In 2023, THE FORESHADOWING ended a forced break of several years with the EP "Forsaken Songs" and a European tour with SATURNUS and IN THE WOODS. Now, "New Wave Order" is the group's fifth full-length album and their debut on Lifeforce Records. The formation from Rome emphasizes its strengths on the album and offers cinematic tracks of dark music that is nevertheless immensely catchy and mood enhancing.” The album has nine songs. “Vox Populi” is first. It has a slow pace, almost like a light rain that continues to fall the entire day. The melodies are delicate, and the vocal harmonies very nice. Piano carries some of the melody along with guitar, and those depressing Doom notes are strong. “Judas Had a Friend” ha some nice electronics in the opening, and what follows are more shades of grey. It moves with a steady pace through the dull landscape, until a key change towards the end being some highlights to the song. “Last December” has gentler and more tender tones…for those of us who live in the Northeast, December is often looked at as the beginning of a long and cold winter.

“Our Nightmares Call” mixes in some strings with the smooth guitars and vocals. Soak this one in slowly, and let it envelope you, and get you in the mood to sink into your chair with a blanket and a book. “Heraclitus” was an ancient Greek pre-Socratic philosopher from the city of Ephesus, which was then part of the Persian Empire. This song has a wider scope and has taken in more elements to thicken it up. “Bound for Ruin” has another electronic entrance, and the soundscape here is quite playful and catchy. It could even be on the radio, because the harmonies have big hooks. “Eyes of a Dawn” begins with clean guitars and the whisper of a cold wind. From there, the song has harrowing qualities, and the semi-harsh vocals work very well.  The lengthy “Vox Dei” closes the album, and it has all of the successful qualities of the album wrapped up into it. As a whole, this is one case where the album’s clean vocals work very well with the music. I usually like my Doom with harsh vocals, because that pairing makes more sense. But, the cleans are so expressive and layered with harmonies. Add in all of the other elements, and you have a memorable album.
