Doomsday King
The Crown

This is one of the long waited reunions and THE CROWN finally decided not to disappoint us with their reunion in 2009 with the only exception that Johan Lindstrand was absent this time. The one the band chose to replace him Jonas Stalhammar of GOD MACABRE fame. It was weird to see (to hear to be more precise) the outcome of this reunion since I heard some really promising things from a friend who had the chance to see them live at a well known Metal festival.
If you are a fan of the extreme, or even the melodic extreme Metal scene then you won't need any info on this band at all. We are talking about one of the leading acts of the melodic Death Metal (with a little bit of Thrash) scene. Some of the younger metalheads may know the band's former frontman Johan Lindstrand from his current main band ONE MAN ARMY AND THE UNDEAD QUARTET. Anyway, useless information for the time being...
Let's see what "Doomsday King" is all about. First of all, the cover kicks major ass! I can't hide that it has already become my PC screen's new wallpaper, hahaha! What about the music contained in this album though? Well, the Swedish butchers slap your fucking face from the very first moments of the opening track ("Doomsday King") with its almost Doom intro and the relentless Death/Thrash outbreak that follows. THE CROWN's music is not as "chaotic" as it used to be in albums like "Crowned In Terror" (yeah, the one with Tomas Lindberg handling the vocals) where you couldn't even catch your breath amidst all the hyper-fast, melodically brutal tunes! "Doomsday King" is more about the song structures, the catchy riffs and the hotter than hell melodic leads both Sunesson and Tervonen spit with their six string lethal weapons!
Except for the music, what will instantly attract your attention is the band's new singer, who is grabbing a microphone that singers like Lindberg and Lindstrand were "torturing" before him. Is he doing well? Well, I guess he is kicking major ass! This guy is a fucking beast! My humble opinion is that the band's decision to hire this guy was the best possible. So, nothing more to say here than... Welcome back mates!
