SUTRAH is the brainchild of Claude Leduc, and took the better part of seven years to crystallize. Attempting to reconcile a wide gamut of interests and approaching Death Metal with an atypical color palette, the band delves into what it means to emerge limited adrift in infinity. Originally a collaboration with bassist Alex Bao, the band eventually found common artistic ground with vocalist Laurent Bellmare. The compositions are an amalgamation of the trio's affection for Eastern philosophy, music, instrumentation, and culture, as well as a deep curiosity for the cosmos, metaphysics, and the question of spirituality."Aletheia" contains four tracks.

"Variation I - Umwelt" leads off the album. It's an instrumental, and opens with some dissonance and takes its time developing the main riff and melody. It builds in layers, and once the drums start rolling, you have a much better sense of what you are listening to. It segues into "Variation II - Lethe," which establishes its sound out of the gates. The vocals are deep and dark, and the music matches with intensity. You can tell the guys are strong musicians, especially the drummer. It takes a high grasp of time to pull off the pyro that Kevin does.

"Variation II - Dwell" opens with clean guitar notes and a slow pace. It's another instrumental where the sounds are positive, unlike the previous two tracks. It builds again with layers of guitars and ends up quite charming. "Variation II - Genese" is a fifteen-minute beast, opening with those clean and hopeful guitars segued from the previous track. Once the main riff is established and the vocals come in, you do get a little bit of BEYOND CREATION here. The bass work, guitar work, and drums are expertly executed. The sounds shifts several times throughout, showcasing the band's diversity and musicianship. At times the melody comes through strong, while other times the vocals crush everything else. The lead guitar work is fantastic as well.

Overall, it was tough to establish one sound from the four fairly different tracks. If the final beast of a song is most indicative of the band, it's a bit easier. The album is expertly crafted and if you have a hankering for highly technical and Progressive Death Metal, you will surely find this album to your liking. Comparisons with OBSCURA and BEYOND CREATION are fair for sure. Challenging riffs, deep Death vocals, and a super-tight section of bass and drums abound. They have all the elements to be a big name in the genre someday.
