The Nameless
Suspect Hostile
Well, I never! What am I experiencing here? What have I fed into the cd player on my PC? I didn’t start playing an ENTOMBED Death ‘n’ Roll album, did I? Or did I? No, after inspection I can confirm that I certainly didn’t. After another look, I can state that what I am listening to with great joy is SUSPECT HOSTILE, a Dutch Heavy/Death Metal band from the Arnhem area of the Netherlands that is not averse to using Hardcore & Punk influences in their music where necessary or expected. The band actually got its name from one of the songs of the mighty BOLT THROWER, so the Death Metal connection is quite understandable.
So, how does “The Nameless” sound and how do I experience the 27 minutes of carnage that is being thrown at me? Well, to set your mind at ease: this album rocks! It has all you want from a Heavy/Death Metal album. It’s loud, it’s obnoxious, it’s filthy. But, it’s also Melodic where necessary, it’s organised and to my7 astonishment I have to concur that this is very easy on the ears. With that I am trying to tell you that the way SUSPECT HOSTILE has written, rehearsed, recorded and mastered “The Nameless” is such that you can hear every note that is being played. I can even understand every word that is being sung/grunted? I’m not sure how to class the voice, as Justin is growling more than grunting or singing. But what is more important; what he is doing fits the music perfectly.
Talking about that; the songs are rather good. They are direct, short, punchy and definitely in your face. I mentioned the similarity with the ENTOMBED Death ‘n’ Roll era at the beginning, and you might want to keep that in mind. Think of a rhinoceros that is on a stampede with his extended family. That’s how Heavy this sounds. What’s more, the music immediately starts drawing you in without you noticing. It then captures your brain once it has passed through your ears and instantly has you wanting more on a constant basis. Oh, that does mean that this is addictive stuff. Well, this is one addiction I’m happy to keep on feeding. And I do hope that after “The Nameless” I can count on SUSPECT HOSTILE to provide me with more nourishment. And I am hopeful that others will succumb to this addiction as well, the band deserves it.
