Sullest

Sullest

Maybe this North American Punk Rock quartet is opnening new ways into the genre. Listen to their music!

As long as Punk Rock acts are being insulted by far-right people (as happens these days with GREEN DAY due their playing of “American Idiot”, changing the lyrics to make reference to a true AmeriKKKan idiot, and there was a massive reaction from Metal and Punk Rock fans against them), it shows as the genre is still as relevant and worries the conservative people. And SULLEST is here to keep things as offensive as they must, as heard on “Sullest”. Musical genres are always evolving to keep things alive, and besides many of the ‘do it yourself’ ideas can be heard on their music, they mix influences and creates a nasty and ferocious music that could be said as ‘Stoner Punk Rock’ due the psychedelic elements and acid melodies.

It’s like combining acts as THE RAMONES and THE DEAD KENNEDYS with touches of BLUE CHEER, and it sounds great, refreshing and alive, with tons of energy flowing from the band’s songs. Recorded and mixed in 2023 by Jared Mann at Distorted Forest Studio, with mastering done by Will Killingsworth at Dead Air Studio, the band’s choice was for something nearer the roots of Punk Rock, or in other words, simple and nasty instrumental tunes that shows an organic appeal. But everything can be understood easily without problems.

Songs as “Compline: Night Duty”, “Party On, Contest Winners”, “Darren Fairenoughsky”, “Windows 9595”, “Susquehanna”, “Counterspell”, “Dirt Mall”, “Contact High”, “Mark Decesare’s House Party”, “Oh No, My Smoking Hand” and “Compline: Morning Bell” speak for themselves, being filled with an amazing energy, sharp guitar riffs, insane vocals (many screamed tunes), very good rhythms supported by bass guitar and drums, hooking choruses and melodies entangled by Stoner Rock elements. And it’s nasty and has an ironic appeal natural for Punk Rock as well.

“Sullest” maybe pointing for new musical possibilities, and no one can deny that SULLEST is a name that deserves respect.
