Post Mortem

Subway To Sally

And after rumors about the band's end, here they are with a greaty Folk/Medieval Metal release!
December 27, 2024

Folk Rock and its subgenres were fruits of musical conceptions born on the 60s, and due the evolution of things, the genre gained a medieval appeal. Today, to speak about Folk Rock it’s not something linked to BOB DYLAN or SIMON AND GARFUNKEL, but to acts with elements that resembles the past cultures of Europe (and other continents as well). And it’s time to speak about a veteran into Folk/Medieval Rock/Metal of Germany, the septet SUBWAY TO SALLY. Even after 34 years since its foundation, they’re still here, now bringing their new full-length, “Post Mortem”.

It’s not a sin to assume their music as a mature and solid form of German traditional Heavy Metal with Hard Rock elements that’s blended with medieval melodies, and one can find the traditional Folk instruments on their work along guitars, bass, drums and vocals (here again singing on German, but with some songs on English). After all these years and many releases (“Post Mortem” is their 15th full-length), they still show energy and very good songs, always surprising their fans, but without leaving the formula they created (again: they’re pioneers on such genre). To such set of musical instruments, it’s obvious that a hard work happened in the studio. And the result is a sonority that is full, solid and rich that allows every single instrumental arrangement to be heard, and on their due places without being one entangled on the other. And it’s a very good way to have the deeper (and true) idea of what “Post Mortem” brings to the fans.

On the 13 songs of this release, the fans will taste a very good set of melodies, but as well as some social manifests (due the fact that things seem to be worse than before). But for those into music, it’s really impossible to not applaud the band’s musical efforts on every song, so the best to do is: to hear to “Introitus” (fine female voice and Folk melodies, even being an intro), “Phönix” (pay attention to the abrasive weight of this one, with excellent guitar riffs entwined with the vocals), “Post Mortem” (this one has a great accessible appeal), “Wunder”, “Nero” (a climatic and abrasive song with very good bass guitar and drums parts), “Unter dem Banner”, “Herz in der Rinde” (a fine and melancholic song with excellent vocals contrasting with the violins and other instruments, and them a storm of weight is unleashed), “Lumpensammler”, “Stahl auf Stahl” (again a fine accessible set of melodies is heard), “Atlas”, “Kummerkind” (be prepared for a massive and weighty onslaught), “Eisheilige Nacht” and “Die Erde Bebt”.

After the rumors that SUBWAY TO SALLY was about to end, “Post Mortem” shows that they have more to offer to their fans. Listen to it and enjoy!
