MMXIII

STORMBRINGER was formed in around the 2011 by guitarists and friends Ashley Smith (formerly n NEKKROSIS) and Dominic Wallace (VIKING SKULL). When I noticed that the band was formed by one of the VIKING SKULL clan I was very excited as VIKING SKULL is one of the bands that I really admire, carving a straight up Metal and Rock N' Roll on one's skin, therefore you can imagine my initial excitement.
The real test of the album is the clashing of styles. NEKKROSIS that Ashley Smith comes from used to play (or still doing) Death Metal however, VIKING SKULL with Dominic Wallace has been playing Hard N' Heavy. I hope that it makes you wonder how STORMBRINGER sounds? Let's find out.
First track "Gazing At The Grave" is the coupling of Hard Rock with elements of Stoner. For some reason I am sure that the band won't probably agree with me, however, that is at least my perception of things. I think that a low register vocals like of Roddy Stone from VIKING SKULL did the trick on the one. Second track "Mark Antony", also has a very nice video, continues the more aggressive style that can be found on the previous track.
There something like a halfway between Stoner and all American aggressive type of Metal throughout the trackliust, for example "Grinder" goes more aggressive while "Submerged" portrays more Stoner and even reminded me of the notorious KYUSS. On the other hand, I found it quite hard to tune to this release that diverted amongst different musical mixes. Of course, nothing here is bad, these guys know their art and I will surely keep following them to watch over their next hazy blaze.
