STONER are a band that were founded by founding members of KYUSS and QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE and are continuing that driving force of that desert blues rock sound, so you know that these guys mean business. This marks the release of their debut album titled "Stoner's Rule" which was released back in June 2021 and was recorded in The Rad Cabin in Joshua Tree, California back in 2020 so already this sounds very promising. So lets jump into the album and see what there is to offer.

The album opens with the song "Rad Stays Rad" and right from the start it has this dirty sounding guitar riff which is backed up by the bass. The vocals here (and through out most of the album) are very hypnotic as this is also a very laid back tune. We also get a bit of a catchy sounding chorus and a guitar solo that is a little out there. Gives us an idea of what is to come. Next up we have "The Older Kids" and this one has a bit of a rocking riff to it. The song has a slight punkish feel to it with the vocal delivery and lyrics. The bass here is really strong and has a nice deep but smooth sound to it. It is quite a fun song to listen to but it is also a very chill song too at the same time.

After that we got "Own Yer Blues" and as the song title suggests there are lots of blues vibes from the start and throughout. There are some good vocal harmonies for the chorus here and the song has a nice pace to it with a pretty cool guitar solo as well. The song starts to build about half way through to make for a bit more of a rocking song with some decent vocal trade offs. The song "Nothin'" is a little more up beat but is a very short and simple track. The same can be said for the next track which is "Evel Never Dies" which is also a little more up beat but with a slight punk feel to it. It is a very catchy song too with some very expressive drumming for the middle section. It is a short song but very to the point.

The song "Stand Down" has some very JIMI HENDRIX vibes to it with the guitar style being showed here. The bass and the drums just keep the pace here and there is a bit of a cool guitar solo here too. With a nice build from the middle section, the song then turns into a jam amongst the band as the song plays out. We get to the final song here with "Tribe Fly Girl" and the guitar is going heavy with that fuzz pedal. This tune really sums up what the band is all about. It is a very chill song with a very bluesy guitar solo. The song is long but is essentially a band jamming away to themselves. It changes multiple times and feels like different songs mashed together.

STONER seem to be a very laid back band with their songs as shown here on the album "Stoner's Rule". The bass seems to be the driving force on here as most of the bass lines are pretty sweet and there are plenty of dirty sounding guitar riffs. You can definitely feel yourself driving through the desert with the albums vibes from the songs here and it is definitely carrying that KYUSS feel throughout also.
