Stone Cold Dead

Picture this: the rough, edgy sounds from CLUTCH with the groovy beats of SKINDRED then throw in HANG THE BASTARD-esque vocal work then you get the beautiful sounds of STONE COLD DEAD. You can hear this for yourselves on their debut album they released this year titled "Lava Flows" and they are definitely a band that you should keep your eyes and ears peeled for in 2016.
STONE COLD DEAD are a trio from Athens, Greece and the formation was concocted by former ROTTING CHRIST and NIGHTFALL guitarist George Bokos who is now on the frontline for this exciting new project. As stated on their BandCamp and Facebook page their music is a fusion of Extreme Groove Metal and Experimental Rock cleverly forged with baritone guitars and bowed contrabass.
This debut album gets off to a pretty groovy stuff where the bands CLUTCH and SKINDRED come into mind; particularly in the track "Climbing The Cave" where they showcase the dirty, edgy riff combined with a groovy beat that people can quite easily dance to. There is a brilliant selection of music on this record from the all encompassing title track to the rapid "Deconstructing The Architect" that every metal head can enjoy with friends or in their own company.
At first it was baffling why this album sounded a little bit different to the others that are out there; there are three drummers, the concept of the album unfolds along the Cosmic Tree, which connects the different realities together. George Kollias; who has worked for NILE, Greek percussion mastermind Yannis Stavropoulos and ZEMIAL mastermind Dimitrios Dorian. Also the use of contrabass and baritone guitars hasn't been heard of before; whether these factors were behind the album or not it certainly gives the album a unique flavour.
Overall a truly great record that will give metal heads a taste of this Greek Metal trio.
