After two EPs, STARCRAZY are out with their debut full length self-titled album, “Starcrazy.” From Sydney, Australia, this band is making noise, and with good reason. Gaining the attention of music podcasts and radio shows, STARCRAZY really rocks. They’ve been described as retro glam with a hint of Rush. I don’t hear the Rush influence, but do hear a little AC/DC and Black Crowes. Hard not to be influenced by AC/DC coming from Australia. Their music is really simple hard core rock n roll, mixed with glam, and blues rock. The band cites their influences as Jane's Addiction, Cheap Trick, Van Halen, and Alice Cooper. It all adds up to one great sound.

The first track is “The Fire,” which has an intro that slowly builds with the focus on the bass. Then it quickly kicks into full tempo with a great groove and rockin’ guitars. There’s a nice bass line to transition from chorus back to the verse. The solo is your standard blues rock licks with a little extra flair. It’s nothing flashy, but works well. This is a good tune to lead off with. After a couple of grooving rock tracks, “Underground” kicks it up a notch, getting a little heavier. It starts off with a simple chord progression with a rolling drum beat. Then it comes in with a good fast heavy rhythm. This is the band’s attempt at a  good heavy song. The solo is a quick fast one, before changing grooves for an interesting ending to the song. “Caught In A Dream (Again)” is an acoustic song. This is a nice simple song with vocals and melodies. It is a  soft laid back type of ballad and sounds good.  “Another Night” starts off with a nice chugging riff, while the guitar has a phaser or some kind of effect. The bass carries the verses. The solo is mainly a simple repeating lick. “Fanzine” has a nice AC/DC type of riff to it that has a nice change for the chorus. The rhythm changes again under the solo, which is simple but effective to keep you rocking. “Jar Of Dirt” is the last track on the album, and starts with a fast little lick before jumping into a quick rhythm. This opening lick is carried and repeated throughout the song. The song has a good driving bassline.

STARCRAZY delivers simple guitar driven rock n roll with a touch of blues. There’s nothing flashy, but instead, fun loving rock songs with catchy riffs. The vocals are good and effective, though nothing over the top. This is an album sure to please those who love high energy, simple guitar driven rock with a touch of glam and blues based riffs.
