Another good release by Frontiers Records. Yes, they have done it again. They have found the Swedish band STARCHASER and allowed them to make an album that will hopefully rock the world. Well, I wouldn't go that far, but they at least have made sure that when you listen to their self titles debut album "Starchaser", you will know that you have been exposed to another Swedish class act. Of course, they play Melodic Rock, which actually is bordering on Metal, but hey, that's what I expected.
What I didn't expect was it to have the level of power and excitement that is being exhibited on "Starchaser". The band is not exactly resting on their laurels, they're really giving it all they have got to make sure that you as a listener will get the full treatment. As the production is without fault, it does mean that every musical instrument used gets enough airing time to make their presence and significance known.
I do like the way the guitars sound, which is a lot heavier than you are used to when listening to Melodic Rock. Just listen to a song like "Bringer Of Evil", and you will be able to appreciate that the sound is heavy enough to fit even a Doom Metal band, but due to the way the other musical instruments are interacting with those guitars it reminds you that this is a Melodic Metal song. And that, my friends, is quite a feat. Something that a lot of bands might easily forget to contemplate when writing their music. Thankfully, STARCHASER haven't forgotten.
As you have gathered by my ministrations, STARCHASER are very good at playing in a way that is not only Melodic, but also Heavy and pleasant too. But the thing that makes an album good is not only the fact that the songs are very good, but that all the tunes that have made the cut are also able to work their way into your mind's eye. To infiltrate your brain in a way that will keep you wanting to listen to the music over and over again. And yes, STARCHASER have been able to achieve just that. I just hope that "Starchaser" gets enough attention and the respect it deserves. With the vast amount of releases that currently see the light of day, one can only hope. Maybe this review will help you decide.
