The Norweigan SNOWFALL, playing melodic Hard Rock mixed with AOR, was formed almost 3 years ago and consist of a pack of experienced musicians: Lead vocalst Lee Small (SHY, PHENOMENA), bassist "PB" Riise (WINTER PRADE) and drummer Perra Johnson (COLDSPELL). The band's founders arest PB Riise and guitarist Tore Meli after the dissolution of their previous band WINTER PRADE. They struggled along without a vocalist for awhile before hooking up with the British melodic voice. Their debut album "Cold Silence" was just released.
"Don't Drive Me Home Tonight" has a fine vibe of the classic nature of AOR. As expected Lee Small shines with all of his glory. This one marked the band as highly competent in these kind of tunes forging great rhythms and peak moments of soloing. "Citadel of Hope" is a fucking catchy track with a simple, yet tight, rhythm section. This one is a pure venture within the midst of early Hard Rock, feels of WHITESNAKE with its melodies and Bluesy vibe. "Jack Of Diamonds" sets another example of an amazing Hard Rock sting, a duel between 80s displays and 70s DEEP PURPLE's style is noticeable within the guitar riffs. "Stampede" is an additional WHITESNAKE type of score, enchanting Blues. "Oscillate" beings like an old TOTO song and then turned up the heat in the coolness of LED ZEPPELIN forged with WHITESNAKE. "House of Prayer" shares melodies that are so enjoyable to comprehend, amazing guitar solo, a general feeling of let the good times roll with such bands like WINGER, GIANT or mentioned earlier DEEP PURPLE. Lee Small has a melodic, powerful, gentle at times, and clear singing voice. The guitar solos are perfectly played by Tore Meli. "I Won't Be Lonely Anymore" is a bumper sticker, highly memorable, a potential hit with its power reflecting the sounds of FOREIGNER keyboards, such an amazing 80s atmosphere.
Other worth listening to are: "Alexandria" displaying progressive sound of the rhythm section, heavier riffs and catchy melodies, softer "Heaven's Not Up There" with a DEEP PURPLE climate, energetic "Wolf's Lair" and the longest song on album, "The Vesper Bell". The song's bass line is in a mere classic tune in the vein of 80s power ballads and QUEEN, next to a progressive form.
Summing up, this album is pretty darn good, sure hearty experience performed with excellence. This Scandinavian band has the ability to grasp one's soul after a few moments. Fans of 80s Hard Rock and Blues Rock will become fans of SNOWFALL. Their music is absolutely enjoyable and relaxing, a journey through the 80s with vintage instants.
