Smallpox Aroma - Festering Embryos of Logical Corruption album cover

This three piece death metal/grindcore band started up in 2006 and formed in Bangkok, Thailand. From 2006 to 2012 they were involved in six split albums from a variety of different labels. In 2014 they put out a compilation album titled Rare Excrements, Rehearsal Emunctories and Live Emeses, the release is thirty three songs at thirty six minutes as a whole. They again in 2017 put out another compilation album of sixty eight tracks and a combined time of just over an hour. Their first EP was released later in 2017 titled Repulsive Pleasures and their first demo came along in 2019, simply titled 2019 Promo. A live album followed by a third compilation album came throughout the pandemic in 2021 and 2022 respectively. Now in 2023, they have returned with their first full length album as a band.

The album has a blast effect from beginning to end. With most tracks falling short of a minute and a half, I was surprised by the amount of variations within some of the songs and not just a riff and the end. The drums come across as a frenzied chaos that seems to get a little lost within the blast beats. The riffs are decent and seem to have a punk or hardcore element to them in tracks like"Metamorphic Passage of Time", "Into the Realm of Nothingness" and "Inherited Ritual of Savagery . "Oh My Sweet Gruesome Scarecrow" and "Quest For the Missing Head" are top tracks on the release. A heavy hitting bass line and direct death metal riffs keep your head spinning. The vocals are a deep and tormented growl feasting on the souls of the living.

"Gory Sight, Shining Bright" is a great track that has everything that you are looking for in a brutal death metal track in half the time. A couple of solid riffs keep your head banging around a blistering pace of the drums and a rumbling bass. For there being only three members in the band, everyone is very active on the tracks and it makes for a huge and constant sound coming through your headphones. "Eleven Corpses Disentombed" and "Unfolding the Secret Alter Egos in You" are your brick to the face brutal death tracks with some technicality but they mainly impose their will upon you. "Country of the Ghouls" ends the album with a crunchy and pounding track that opens up sounding like an early 90's ANTHRAX track before exploding into more aggressive tendencies. The album most certainly goes by pretty quickly but there is a lot happening within the tracks to be able to get a feeling for what the band is trying to accomplish.
Not sure if it is an album I will be revisiting again but I would recommend it for anyone looking to discover something new for their grindcore collection.
