Apocryphal Diary
Slabber
The Italian Metal scene is huge, and has many very good names hidden in the underground. To speak in an honest way, Italian Metal isn't only made by BULLDOZER, RHAPSODY OF FIRE and its greater names. And one good name from the country is from SLABBER, which is coming with their second album, "Apocryphal Diary".
Their musical work can be described as the paradigm of Italian traditional Heavy Metal, but with some bits from modern Heavy Metal (the influence from JUDAS PRIEST and from the earlier works of PRIMAL FEAR is clear in some moments), along with the catchy melodies and choruses influences by the US Metal school. So the best to say is that it's a modern form of traditional Heavy Metal, with clear aggressive parts, but without leaving aside the natural melodic appeal of the genre. And although it's not something new (the genre is done for years), it's full of energy and it's really great!
The production worked in a form that the melodic side of their music could be adorned with fine aggressive melodies. And the sonority is clean and defined, with good instrumental tunes. So the best of their music can be heard and understood without problems and complains The abrasive form of their music mixed with traditional melodies is a very good strategy, and can be heard on its best form on songs as "Time of Boredom" (a very good opening song, with charming melodies, good choruses, and fine vocals on a Rob Halford/Warrel Dane way), "Insane Attack" (fine rhythmic arrangements from bass guitar and drums, and another catchy chorus), "Evil to Pay" (a fine technical work along some traces from Hard Rock, and what very good backing vocals and guitars), "Survivor" (the balance between aggressiveness and melodies is really excellent on this one), and "Condemned to Live" (very good melodies on the chorus).
The Italian Metalheads of SLABBER has a lot to offer, so give yourself a chance and listen to "Apocryphal Diary" as loud as you can.
