SKULL & CROSSBONES is a new band for me. They play Melodic Metal/Heavy Metal/Speed Metal/Power Metal band from Gerstetten, Baden-Württemberg in Germany that has been active since and with "Time" is giving us their sophomore album, their debut "Sungazer" being from 2023. And I have to say, these guys really know how to make an immediate impression, as opening tune "Echoes of Eternity" goes from 0 to 100 mph in just a few seconds. And let me tell you, if this song doesn't do it for you, just ignore the rest of the album. the most remarkable part of this song are the vocals, as Tobi Hübner has the ability to start his time like we are used from John Cyriis of AGENT STEEL fame. It just adds to the excitement that you feel just by listening to the first song.

That doesn't die down when the next songs come into play, they just shift a bit. On "Time Thief" you could argue that the vocals are a mix between John Cyriis and early Geoff Tate (QUEENSRŸCHE). And those are very positive comparisons, as I feel that Tobi Hübner doesn't have to exert himself to achieve those voices. It only adds to the enjoyment of this very straight forward, rather fast paced and quite intense sounding "Time" album. You will also hear that the musicians within SKULL & CROSSBONES are very good, know how to play and make sure that what they do not only sounds good, but also makes sense. Every song has a good start, a decent and solid body and a very satisfying finish, which demonstrates that the band is a quite smooth operating machine that has found their musical direction and expertise.

As for the songs themselves, they are simple, easy to listen to and as straight as an arrow. There are no unexpected breaks or hidden depths to be discovered. This is immediate pleasure for those who like this kind of Metal. But due to the high pitched vocals it won't be for everyone. The same goes for the Melodic atmosphere that is so evident on "Time". But if you are like me, which is one of those Metal fans who wants to find something new to discover every time when listening to an album, I feel that SKULL & CROSSBONES isn't providing that for you this "Time". But that doesn't make this album any less enjoyable, just not sustainable in the long run.
