Skinless - Only The Ruthless Remain album cover

Today I have been given the great pleasure of reviewing an album by a band that have stapled themselves as one of Death Metal's titans of extremity, the fact that I am able to review this incredible return is a great pleasure for me to do, I feel that with this record you will find the bands trade mark sound as well as much more.

So without any more delay this is SKINLESS with "Only The Ruthless Remain"!

"Serpenticide" the song starts with a silent echo which leads us into a pure full on force of power from vocalist Sherwood Webber, The songs structure for me is a take back to the bands style used on their 2003 release From sacrifice to Survival which shows that for the records first track that they have really taken a lot from their previous records as well as adding some newer traits to which show that they have also evolved as a band and have taken a new step in their quest of brutality. As the song goes on we see the flow of riffs flying about as well as some forceful drums building and building on the back of this song.

"Only The Ruthless Remain" this song starts off very doom ridden with some slow and heavy beats and fast relentless riffs mixed together to form the backbone of this track and creating what can be one of the records best tracks in comparison to speed and aggression to which mixes well to my ears, as I said at the start the band have returned with some new and familiar song structures to which beat down hard and create some of the best tunes that two thousand fifteen will hear, I feel that as the seconds fly by this song really grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go.

"Skinless" song titled after the bands name means one thing folks, pure unreal power!. The song itself shows no mercy when it comes to smacking the listener down a peg and showing how much this band can crank out the tunes to the highest degree possible, the track itself holds some of the bands earliest Death Metal sounds as well as some incredible riff and vocal work bringing in what can honestly be some of SKINLESS's best to be very honest. It can be said that the band have gone beyond with how fast and groovy this track can get.

"Flamethrower" what more can you ask for then some incredibly brutal drum beats mixed together with a fire fight of vocal prowess and blasts to which come together to form this power house of anger and incinerating riffs to which combine together to form this track. It can be seen that the track goes through a lot of the bands newer ideas and mixtures to which lead well together, but what I didn't expect to find was a melodic side to the band on this track as near the middle the riffs lead together to create some very melodic pieces of music as well still keeping to the bands punishing sounds together making everything equal in brutality and intensity.

"The Beast Smells Blood" as the title states there is indeed a beast out for blood as the track opens with a high scream and crushing tones to open this titan of a track and bring us into a pot of cremation to which mixes us in a recipe of growls and punishing drum beats, I find that if this song is ever played live we might need to call for a couple hundred medics to help sew everyone back together again as this is a song that will rip you apart and throw you back for more, not like I'm complaining that is, when it comes to a punishing tone of aggressive tunes SKINLESS have it down to an art and that is the plain truth ladies and gentlemen.

"Funeral Curse" for a record like this it is strange to find a slow and clean toned opening, but I guess with what we have seen so far with this album there are many surprises ahead of what we expected, that is until the brick to the face tone kicks in and sends you flying. The tone that follows is slow and fast if that makes any sense at all as there are parts where the band take their time and create some heavy hits where as on another part there are times here the song will speed up and create a cycle of intense visions which you could think of when hearing this record, then again I find that this has to be one of my favorites off of this record as there are moments here you have no idea where you up to and that is what I love about it and that is why it crushes folks.

"Barbaric Proclivity" we come to the records final track which leads with some beats leading up to the main riffs of this monster of a track, the main thing you will need to look out for on this song is the power of the guitars that are being created before us by Noah Carpenter and Dave Matthews, when I say that these two are the base of some of Death Metal's best riffs then I'm not lying folks, Noah Carpenter of course is known as SKINLESS's base of riffs since the bands conception in 1992 ringing in some of the most brutal and powerful riffs you'll hear to this day, where as with new comer Dave Matthews I feel that he really works perfectly with this style of music creating equal powerhouse ideas and crushing tones that really make this song destroy.

To conclude I feel that this record truly is something I have been very proud of reviewing as this has to be one of the best Death Metal releases this year and it shows as well, we see a band that has returned with a record that kills over and over again bringing in some of the heaviest riffs you'll hear all year.

On a final note I look forward to seeing SKINLESS at this years Hellfest!!
