SKILLET must be the most significant "new" Rock band in the world these days, they reign (no pun intended) the Alternative, Classic Rock and Christian music markets and charts. Sound-wise there is a little bit of Post-Grunge, Industrial high definition arrangements, some Arena Rock and nowadays; IMAGINE DRAGONS influence.
"Legendary" sounds like a hybrid between MARILYN MANSON meets DEF LEPPARD circa 1987. It works as an appetizer for the anthemic sound that is yet to come. Verses have the "Beautiful People" shuffle groove, and gang vocals towards the chorus. "You Ain't Ready" repeats the second-single-template as the Lep´s and Nickelback did ("Animal" and "Burn in to the Ground" being a proper example for this). "This is the Kingdom" pops-up IMAGINE DRAGONS influence, sorry but could not stand the self-help lyrics. "Save me" has a nice guitar solo, and it remembers me of some obscure cuts from OZZY´s "Black Rain" especially with the synthesized bass guitar riff.
"Never Going Back" has an Industrial format, a sticky chorus, a melodic solo here and there, and an overproduce style of singing; nothing new like the sun. The songs "Reach" and "Anchor" are nineties ballad- rehash, whereas, "Finnish Line" and "Back to Life" are immersed in the arena rock department. The latter is pure OZZY- "Scream" frenzy; the drum patterns are very close to the song "Soul Sucker." Must add that "Back to Life" has a wicked outro, with a brief guitar solo and changing drum tempo. By far, this is the best track of this record. Overall, the record sounds like SKILLET, maybe a little bit heavier in some minutes, and even poppier in others. It has the "Rainier Fog" syndrome (Last ALICE IN CHAINS record); that means it sounds just like what you expected from these guys, nothing new to the table.
Regarding my OZZY comments, I just checked both credits and personnel ("Black Rain," "Scream," and "Victorious"), and BANG! The same producer is behind the board: Kevin Churko. He is guilty of lousy tom sound, loud, unnecessary volume.
