Sixty Nine - Just For The Fun album cover

Whoever's familiar with the 'CHANNEL ZERO' name should have in mind SIXTY NINE was the band from the 'ashes' of which (along with Thrash legends CYCLONE) CHANNEL ZERO was born. I was initially pleased to see Painkiller Records re-releasing SIXTY NINE's one-and-only album, Just For The Fun (1988 - had not heard it in prior), since it was originally released via Pilum Records; meaning, petite - if any - distribution. The pleasure did not carry on, since listening to the CD I was not impressed at all. The album's name is appropriate; just for the fun of it?
Less than 30 minutes of chaotic Thrash Metal with some US Crossover references you'll get. The average duration of each track is not more than three minutes, with fast speeds co-exchange with mid-tempo bridges. Some banging-along riffing does actually exist, while the rhythm section could do better. The vocals are kinda average, with Danny singing in a messy way, being pre-Death Metal at times while his overall performance did not cheer me up.
Eternal Life sees some serious songwriting, featuring some dominating grooves, while Sixty Nine may shake you a little bit. For the rest, without being a rather bad album, my opinion is you'll have little chance of saying wow!. If you want to have everything from the 80s Euro Thrash days, then you won't be disappointed. Still, I do not count many thrashers still feel this way.
