Sister Shotgun - Fragments album cover

There are many Metal fans that complain a lot about the modern Metal genres and ways. Unfortunately, there are cases of those that can adapt themselves to the modern times, so they and their music will be extinct day in, day out. It's a truth of life, and in the end of all words, life always prevails. So, the load of modern times is beared by the UK based quintet SISTER SHOTGUN's music as "Fragments" shows.

Their music can be said as a modern mix of traditional Heavy Metal with influences of Hard Rock and Rock 'n' Roll. It means that their musical work is based on strong sets of catchy melodies along aggressive guitar riffs, a heavy weight work from bass guitar and drums, and lovely and charming vocals (that uses some aggressive normal tunes of voice in some parts, and melodic ones on others). It could barely be compared with EVANESCENCE earlier works but being more Metalized and not melancholic. Yes, they're pretty good, indeed. The sound production of "Fragment" is really very good, creating the right ambiences for their musical contrasts: when they play aggressive and modern, or melodic and tender, the sonority works to be clean, to show what they really got. And the set of instrumental is really very good, matching almost perfectly on what they play.

It's not easy to choose the best songs on an album that shows such level of homogeneity. But the contrasts between melodies and aggressiveness shown on "Sacred Heart" (fine guitar riffs, indeed) and on "She Lives" (this one has a charming catchy chorus, and how lovely the vocals are), the accessible harmonies of "From the Ashes" (the guitar tunes are not as greasy as modern as is usual to Metal bands on this genre, so it makes the vocals more appreciable), the sharp and nasty melodies of "Fragments", the brutal weight of "Kill the Lights" (with some fast tempos that are near of Groove Thrash Metal used to be, and bass guitar and drums are making an amazing work), and the tender feeling that fills "Silhouettes" are the best moments of this album. And the bonus song "No Hope" is amazing as well, another finest example of how to mix aggressiveness with very good melodies in a modern aesthetics.

SISTER SHOTGUN really aims at the fans' hearts, so "Fragments" must be heard at the loudest volume possible.
