Silver P. - Memories album cover

SILVER P. is a Heavy Metal/Hard Rock project based out of Lucca, Tuscany, Italy that was formed back in 2017. It is essentially a solo project of Roberto ''Pugnale'' Colombini, founded in January of 2017. His nickname Silver P. stems from "pugnale", meaning "dagger" in Italian, while "silver" refers to his partly graying hair. This is the first full-length release of the band entitled "Memories" released on the Red Cat Records label on October 5th, 2018.

"The Deep Breath Before the Plunge" is an instrumental relying mostly on keyboard atmospheres; it has a very dark dungeon feel to it. It transitions nicely into "Fields of War", which has some nice heavy guitars in the background. I can hear some CONCEPTION in here, and a tinge of SAVATAGE as well. The middle portion of the song is very heavy in this Hard Rock format, and I can sense the influence of FATES WARNING. This is a very strong opening track and lays the groundwork for "Road to Hell", a nice grinder that pays respect to the almighty motorcycle enthusiasts of JUDAS PRIEST. It is a very energetic track that shows off the vocal talents of Alex Jarusso, who definitely has a nice set of pipes. A shout out here to well-defined solos as well, they truly take center stage here.

"Memories" has a western movie aspect to it, not only in its darker tone, but its execution. I would not say it's a country song, far from it, but it definitely uses a similar theme. The best comparison I could give is ALICE IN CHAINS, a song that breathes despair and hope at the same time. In the heavier portions, I hear an influence of arguably the greatest singer on the planet that we have unfortunately lost, Chris Cornell. This song just has so many layers in it; it is eclectic, which is a huge plus in this day and age of ever-changing music.

"The Net" uses some different effects and with its more straight-ahead and simple approach shows how the band can get a point across with straightforwardness. It has a memorable chorus, and this track puts the emphasis on it nicely. "A Shade in Light" is a lot heavier than any of the previous tracks with more chugging of the guitars that are akin to EVERGREY. It shines the light (no pun intended) on the more aggressive side the band is capable of and should be a favorite for many of the band's followers.

"Out of this world" has the perfect title as it has a completely different side to it; the songs sounds like it was recorded in an alternate universe (surely an intended effect). It has a more experimental quality to it, especially in the way it is recorded and repeats some of the themes the beginning of the album was treating. Lastly, "Straight at the Heart" as the album closer, I think we have the ultimate SOUNDGARDEN tribute if I have ever heard one; it has a great deal of emotion and an edgy side to it. It is a great way to finish off the album that seems to get better and better from song to song.

The album really shines on every single track, which is a very rare deed these days, the vocals are strong from start to finish and every musician is given a chance to shine. If you never heard of this project (I had never heard of them before writing this review), I strongly recommend you give this album a chance and you will feel good about it.<
