Wow! This is a surprise. Here I receive an album from a Swiss band that does not try to imitate GOTTHARD, ELUVEITIE or even NIGHTWISH! SILVER DIRT come from Geneva and their sound is not Metal, in my humble opinion not even Hard Rock, but with enough glammy parts in their songs. They do a revival of the sound most Rock/punk bands preferred back in time, with eventual resemblance to Iggy Pop, NEW YORK DOLLS, 70s ALICE COOPER and...well you got the picture.

SILVER DIRT made their first steps as a LED ZEPPELIN cover band and later they evolved in what they are now. The first album was Sonic Boom back in 2006 and this year Never Give Up hits the stores. At least, generally, in the title choices there is an air of optimism here in Switzerland! Despite the fact that this band has focused on the French part of the country, it seems that already with the second album they have managed to promote well their name outside the borders - this is what the live dates in Tokyo, Japan indicate.

As far as this release is concerned, the production takes you back in another decade, bursting out with sounds that NEW YORK DOLLS - and all the above mentioned bands- even AC/DC used to have, a bit more dry to my ears though. The contribution of Silver Steff in vocals is giving an extra boost. This genre does not help, and extra in that, this quartet doesn't unfold fully the talent it might possess.  Here, one gets their ability of producing easy listening songs with simple riffs; at least the solos parts are better than Joan Jett's ones! Never Give Up is an OK release, maybe it won't be the metalhead's cup of tea but this album is what I use to call car music. Get in your car, press play and go straight on the highway...
