SIDIAN formed as a Death Metal band from California that was formed in late October of 2010 by a group of musically inclined friends; drummer Chris Fuentes, bassist Danny Farhoud, and guitarist Wyatt Sharp. After six months of vigorous writing, they entered Mayhemness Studios and in turn released their debut four-track demo "El Sol Tace." Shrouded in controversies of drug addiction and member conflict, SIDIAN's members eventually parted ways in September 2013. Guitarist Wyatt Sharp revived the band in 2018 and recorded and performed everything on "Carry My Bones;" now listed as Atmospheric/Progressive Death Metal.

"Fathers" leads off the six-track EP. It enters in as if coming out of a pipe underground into the light. Technical tones abound, with vile Death vocals. The time shifts many times in this short track. "Pillars" is nearly twice as long. Besides the high level of technicality, it almost sounds like DeathCore to me. The Progressive elements stand out, as a flurry of guitar, bass and drums toy with the meter. It's an intense piece of music for sure. The Atmospheric elements come in the form of an ambient and slower passage towards the end, in desolate tones. "A Delicate Thread" is the longest song on the album, as six minutes in length. Dissonant guitar tones dominate the landscape as they dance around in a rhythm difficult to comprehend. Some melody comes towards the end of the track with clean vocal harmonies and guitar.

"Morning Agony" opens with clean and depressive guitar tones. When the distorted guitars and vocals come in, they are absolutely agonizing. The entire track threatens to crush your very existence...it's so sad and hollow. "The Shallow Grave of Inherent Hate" opens with a much faster and livelier pace, as the guitars and bass samba while the drums keep an impossible time meter. Vocally, we are offered a diverse plate of earnest screams and more guttural utterances. It segues into "Servility," the closing track. Eerie atmospheric notes and clean guitars make this song sound like it comes from outer space. It's a mellow ending to an otherwise ultra-intense EP.

Overall, I have to say that I was amazed at this creation here titled "Carry my Bones." The amount of diversity offered while maintaining a centralized core sound here is incredible. The musicianship is impeccable and the timing of the various instruments work in a synergy not often heard in the over-arching genre of Metal. Wyatt Sharp is one talented guy and this is an album not to be overlooked. It will appeal to Tech-heads, Prog-heads, Death Metal guys, and anyone who is interested in something off the beaten path.
