On a personal note first: Before we get to today's review I would like to take a moment to thank Steinmetal and the entire Metal Temple family for the warm welcome, cheers m/
Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls of all ages, grab your cowboy boots, fill up your beer tankards and most importantly.... Grow your sideburns because you're about to be treated to some old school Rock N' Roll.
Hailing from Switzerland, Sideburn have been around since the mid 90's, reminiscent of RAM JAM and AC/DC, the band plays their own version of classic Blues inspired Hard Rock, and that my friends is exactly what you get on this re-release of the band's 2003 album "Gasoline".
In classic Rock N' Roll fashion this album gets right to the point with the "Black Betty", inspired opener "Baby Don't Care", a fun fast paced song that leads comfortably into the title track "Gasoline" that follows along the same lines. Things change a bit for the next number "Walls of Shame", its slower riff and fantastic guitar solo make it the first standout track on this album. "Black Sheep" is a very bluesy number with a catchy chorus (like most choruses on the record), "Never kill the Chicken" is another standout, with the harmonica and a country inspired riff. The rest, well, the rest just continues as it began.
This album features great musicians, outstanding guitar solos, fun songs, yup, this album should really be heard with a cold beer after a long day. That's the positive, the negative is that this album is lacking innovation and for the most part it is quite monotonous. Then again, let's be honest for a second, "Gasoline" was probably never meant to be groundbreaking or even overly original. It sounds like a bunch of guys having fun playing music for the love of it, and in that respect, it works well.
