Chaos Revamped
Sickening Horror
The lands of Greece could had a Metal scene before the 90's, but the advent of internet and the SWOBM (Second Wave of Black Metal), with ROTTING CHRIST, VARATHRON and NECROMANTIA spreading their music throughout the world, helped the scene to come to evidence. Today, Greek Metal scene shows excellent names, and one of them is from the trio SICKENING HOUR, from Athens, that is coming with the thunderous "Chaos Revamped", their latest release.
Their musical work is based on a technical embodiment of CANNIBAL CORPSE better elements. It means that their music has and Old School feeling, is brutal, aggressive and fascinating, but with a more technical approach and even some subjective melodies appears in the middle of the Death Metal massacre they impose. It pulses with life and energy, and a personal approach on their work. And it's very good, indeed.
The album was recorded at Ignite Music Studio in Athens, but with its mixing and mastering done at Soundlodge Recording, in Germany, by the hands of Jörg Uken (the same one who previously worked with ANVIL, GOD DETHRONED, SUICIDAL ANGELS and others), creating something that's brutal and oppressive, but with a clean approach, and some dry instrumental tunes (what improved the comprehension of what they're playing). Yes, it's truly a very good work.
Ten Death Metal missiles are targeting the ears of the fans, but it's not possible to surrender to their musical efforts heard on "Outburst" (brutal and technical, the contrasts of tempos are amazing), "Transmutation" (this one is a pure Old School Death Metal song, but with technical improvements, and the guitars are very good on their riffs), "Cubical Void" (very good energy, and some Thrash Metal elements can be heard on it), "Chaos Revamped" (what a massive rhythmic work, solid and technical at the same time), and the slower parts of "Dawn of the Sick" and "Loophole", be better ones for a heavy neck ache.
Obviously, "Chaos Revamped" shows that some evolution still is left to reach, but for now, it shows that SICKENING HORROR is a strong name of the Greek Death Metal scene.
