Sharptooth - Transitional Forms album cover

SHARPTOOTH are a Hardcore band from Baltimore, USA. They were founded in 2012 and released prior to the new album two EPs and one full-length album entitled "Clever Girl" in 2017. Since then they were touring through North America and Europe with bands like ANTI-FLAG, COMEBACK KID, or CANCER BATS. The new album "Transitional Forms" seamlessly continues and goes one step further compared to "Clever Girl": aggressive, kick-in-your-face Hardcore with a portion of typical Metalcore elements, a no compromise attitude and simple messages. "Transitional Forms" was released via Pure Noise Records and has a total length of approximately 30 minutes.

The opening song sets the tone of the album: powerful guitar riffs, variations in tempo, breakdowns, and overarching the outstanding vocals of Lauren Kashan. "Say Nothing (In The Absence Of Content)" is, moreover, a parody on pop songs of famous female singers, not without a pinch of self-irony. "Mean Brain" and "Hirudenia" are two more examples of that what SHARPTOOTH have to offer: crunching guitars and bass, frequent rhythm changes and aggressive vocals. "Life On The Razor's Edge" sounds darker than the rest of the album: slow in tempo, heavy guitar sequences and brutal growls and screams.

"The Gray" and "Evolution" are great circle pit songs: very fast and aggressive, hammering blast beats, and crunchy guitar riffs. In "The Gray," Lauren Kashan uses here her clean voice during the middle break, adding an extra dimension to the song. The songs "153" and "Nevertheless (She Persisted)" are another examples for her huge vocal talent beyond screaming. "Evolution" and "Say Nothing (In The Absence Of Content)" were also released as video, the YouTube link for "Evolution" is given below.

"The Southern Strategy" and "M.P.D.B. (Manic Pixie Dream Bitch)" are similarly heavy and intense as "The Gray." Both songs are slower in tempo with more complex song structures. Especially "M.P.D.B. (Manic Pixie Dream Bitch)" has a very different rhythm with very comprehensive drum parts of Matt Hague during the first half of the song transitioning into a pounding rhythm until the end.

"Transitional Forms" is an upgrade compared to the debut album of SHARPTOOTH. It is darker, heavier, more intense and combines Hardcore with Metalcore elements, Punk, and Post-Hardcore. The sound and songwriting fits perfectly to the vocals of Lauren Kashan. Her range from insane screams and growls as well as clean vocals are one of the highlights of "Transitional Forms" with her bandmates being inspired and raising their standards as well. It is a very well-produced album and fans of SHARPTOOTH can look forward to see their new material live.
