To play Classic Rock today is not an easy task, because it's a new label to define an old musical genre: it's the old and good music from the 70's, based on names as LED ZEPPELIN, DEEP PURPLE and others on their vein. The number of fails of newcomers playing such genre is impossible to calculate, because it's a matter of living those days, not only of hearing and playing like the ancient bands played. And SHAGGY is welcome back to life, because their new album, "Fighting Angels and Demons", is an amazing piece of music.

They're a band from the early days of the 70's (that now binds members from Sweden and UK together) that released one album on 1974 (that is rare to find today), but ended on those days, and now is back. And on this album, you can feel the same energy and power from those days, only being dressed up by a modern sound quality (due the technologies used on recordings). Their music is really amazing, filled with tasty melodies, catching choruses and a tremendous energy. Yes, they sound alive and ready to conquer new fans. As written above, the sound quality tries to be modern and full of energy, with a clear insight guiding the production. And it creates a link that binds the band's musical personality of their earlier days with the actual times. It sounds powerful and heavy, but clear, and done with organic instrumental tunes.

Even the number of songs of "Fighting Angels and Demons" is old fashioned: only seven songs, all of them showing a very good work in a way similar to RAINBOWN and DEEP PURPLE, but keeping a heavy weight grasp. But the seductive rhythm and great guitars shown on "Black Hearted Angel", the heavy and classic weight of "No Soldier of God" (excellent vocals, and the harmonies can remind the fans of something that RAINBOW used on the past), the amazing Country Rock/Southern Rock touch on the thunderous weight of "A Thousand Miles" (an excellent work from bass guitar and drums), and the charming Classic Hard Rock essence of "Self Destruction" (very good parts on keyboards on Jon Lord's style, and vocals that charms the fans) can be said as their finest moments.

The band is promising one more album for this year, so let's hope that "Fighting Angels and Demons" is just another beginning of a long enduring career. Welcome back to the front, SHAGGY!
