Shadow Of The Torturer

We start with the opening track "Indianapolis/Ukiah". As the song begins we are welcomed by the sounds of a ritualistic doom atmosphere accompanied by the deathly sounds of a silent specter of a vocalist, almost as if was meant to resemble that of a chant awakening the inner mind and soul, this brought me interest as it drew me closer into what this track had started to become before my ears, almost disturbing yet somehow still pulling me closer in without even giving a reason as to why but still I find this song very haunting, what really got me about this song was that it had a familiar touch to it, at first I wasn't sure what it was until it hit me that this reminded me of CELTIC FROST in their early days, say "Morbid Tales" era CELTIC FROST but slower and much more, even still I was very impressed by the idea of this song and what it brought to my imagination.
We continue on with the second track "We Are a Righteous People/Guyana". The interesting thing about this song to begin with is that it starts with a live recording of an individual speaking into the microphone while at the same time you are able to hear other voices in the back talking as well as a man asking for the others to sit down as if it is meant to be a class being taught, as the song starts the recording continues to play on as a heavy force of bass, drums and guitars play along louder and louder, in a way of listening to this song I hear that there is strong symbolism that are connected to this song, I feel this because with the recording still playing there is a strong mix of the song working into what this individual is saying as if stating a strong point to which needs to be given more attention to.
To conclude I really have to say that I have never heard anything as strong and as aggressive as this, I only say this because there seems to be a story behind these two songs that I believe the band feels very strongly about, the anger and the frustration that both tracks hold is incredible, there are no other words to say how soulful these tracks are, I felt when listening to this that there was more behind every corner and that this may be a sample of what SHADOW OF THE TORTURER has in store.
