SEVENTH CRYSTAL is a Swedish Hard Rock band. "Delirium" is their debut album and was released on Frontiers Music SRL on May 14, 2021. This is new music, but it immediately sounds familiar. Blending influences from '80s Hair and Glam Metal acts with classic and arena rock, they strike a comfortable chord.
The record begins with the single "Say What You Need To Say," a song about getting the truth out. When there is conflict between two people, hinting is not the answer. Say what's on your mind, what you feel. This makes the song instantly relatable. We've all had this turmoil in our lives. The big question is, can we get past the rough spot and make it back to harmony? This is a song about getting there and getting back to good.
"Broken Mirror" starts off slow and ethereal. The guitar tones are dark and rich, the vocals are haunting. The song kicks in fully after the intro with an anthemic type of riff. Dropping back out, the song has a lot of variability that ebbs and flows well. The guitars and keyboards play well together and the rhythm section has some nice fills here and there that showcase the talent of the whole band.
One of the harder songs on the record is "Delirium". I really like the intro here. The guitar/keyboard tones swell up and really fill the space. The vocals are light and airy. Then the heavy hits and the vocals get gritty, the guitar gets back to heavy and the rhythm drives hard. This is a big song, full of emotion and passion. Pressed to pick, this would be my favorite song on the record.
"Should've Known Better" and "So Beautiful" are both cool Rock songs that have very radio friendly hooks and great rhythm. The vocals are very well done, soaring when needed and gritty at just the right times. Again, the way the guitars and keyboards work together is really catchy. These are all solid songs that flow from one to another with ease.
The last track, "Hope It Will Be Alright," is the pleasant surprise on the album. Vocals, piano and a cello tell a heartfelt tale of wishing someone well. This is the song that everyone holds up their lighters... I mean cellphones... for while swaying with the rhythm. People will sing along and a few might even tear up. This is the song that touches those tender places in the heart and mind, reminding us of those we love.
SEVENTH CRYSTAL is definitely an interesting new band. They feel and sound like a different era, but they do it well. This is not a band that copies the formula from 30 years ago, they re-invent it with new music that touches the listeners' soul. You can relate to their tales of relationship victories and losses. They say what many people feel but cannot fully express. This is the mark of a band that can speak not just to, but for their audience.
